Meet Some Our Captains

certification: 100 Ton Master Captain License # ****757
On the water and controlling the helm from 8 years old, I’ve spent my entire life on both Power and Sail boats. I’m one of the few and far between lovers of both mediums. Turning the engine off and harnessing Mother Nature to propel yourself and a beautiful 55’ sailing yacht forward is equally exciting to me as singling up, ordering the fenders pulled and easing that throttle forward on an 85’ Pilothouse Motor Yacht as we maneuver a tight slip, ease out of the marina and out the channel. Let’s give you time to truly enjoy your time on the boat; let me take responsibility for your safety and that of your friends, family or colleagues. No matter the occasion, your safety is my number one priority. Having the time of your life is equally important and I assure you that you’re going to be safe, entertained and grateful that you didn’t have to worry about a thing! Let’s go cruising
After working as a woodworker for a number of years, I saw it as more of a hobby and in May of 2018, I left the trade and went and got my captains license. I now live in Ocean Beach with my girlfriend and our dog, where we enjoy being outside whether it be on board or at the beach. I look forward to sharing my love of the water with you, and showing you the reasons why I fell in love with our Southern Californian seas.
I’m a San Diego native. Born and bred, I don’t take a single thing about America’s Finest City for granted. Not the friendliness of my neighbors, the beauty of our waters nor the Sunsets so grand you can only find here. The proud son of career Navy Fighter Pilot, I’ve been blessed to be around the water from birth and have always felt drawn to it. Sailing from a very early age and running power boats from 15 years.
Deleted:I spent the better part of 3 decades working deep inside the Hospitality, Tourism and Entertainment Industries. Then taking some time for me, I took my boating experience and mixed it with a natural ability to drive virtually anything and became a USCG Master Captain 100 ton. And, there’s nothing I love more than bring my unique skillset to ensure the highest levels of customer service, care, and hospitality are passed on and through my command to you and your guests.
Deleted:Whether it is a day, week or month Charter, Delivery or Private Instruction, Family, Friends or Corporate Event. The result will be the same … that is to say, the exceeded expectation.
Deleted:Thank you for giving me the opportunity to share my love of the sea and my gift for delivering it with style and grace.
I’ve Captained both Power and Sailing Yachts ranging in size from 36’ to 92’. Under charter, for purposes of private instruction and even delivery. The safety of all guests and crew in my charge is my number one priority and I take the experience you have while onboard with me equally as seriously. I’m excited at the prospect of being the solution to your problem of needing a captain.

I grew up fishing on the lakes of Minnesota, finding my love for the water at a very young age. Through way of living in the mountains of Colorado, I found myself in California, where I sailed from Newport to San Diego cruising for 3 months around Southern California. Once I arrived in San Diego, I decided to stay and have been here for over ten years.

I have always had a passion for sailing, but found a great interest in sport fishing early on. I started as a crew member on a Bristol 29 in my mid 20s, stopped in San Diego and bought an
Erickson 27 as my first boat. In the last ten years I have operated small sport fishing and sailing vessels from the 30’ range to pleasure cruisers and sailboats in the 55-60’ range. I have
delivered sport fishing boats to La Paz, Mexico and done a fair amount of cruising on sailboats in the Sea of Cortez.

I am a San Diego native and have lived near or on the ocean my entire life. I currently hold a 1600 ton Masters Licence upon Oceans. As a kid, I was always fascinated by ships and had always dreamed of what it would be like to be a captain. I made my dream a reality at the age of 20 when I became a USCG 100 ton Captain. As a 100 ton Captain, I worked on an array of vessels from small center consoles to 210-foot crew boats in the Gulf of Mexico. Every time I got underway from the dock was a learning experience and the knowledge I gained was paramount to my next license. After years of training, classes, and six of the hardest tests I’d ever taken, I became a 1600 ton Master upon Oceans. The ability to captain larger vessels brought upon opportunities to work in all areas of the world. I’ve worked in countless countries and have had the pleasure to experience cultures I’d only read about in textbooks. I pride myself on the safety of the personnel on board the vessel, the vessel itself, and the environment. I enjoy operating vessels and have an excellent and clean record with the USCG. I look forward to working with you and your guests on our next adventure. Thank you for your consideration.

I developed my passion for being on the water growing up on the East Coast. Something about boats just speaks to my core. That became even more apparent when I served in the US Navy. I quickly became a decorated craft commander and graduated from several Naval high intensity/speed vessel operational schools. When I left the service I set out to become the most proficient and professional Mariner I could, taking on every challenge I could to build on my skill set. I’ve run wine tours, Fishing boats, the Coronado ferries, tour boats, government contract vessels, SeaTow on the water rescue towing, and others but my real love is for yachts. I’m excited for every opportunity I can get, and I guarantee that I’ll show up with a smile, personality and level of ability and experience you won’t find elsewhere. I’m looking forward to showing you and your guests an amazing time on the water
The entirety of Southern California waters to the Baja peninsula, I’ve been at the helm of most for-hire vessels. Trips, deliveries, tows from San Diego bay to Newport, Catalina, Ensenada, etc. I’ve done it. I’m available and flexible for whatever your needs with a can-do attitude and the capability to handle stressful situations should they arise.
Other vessel experiences include:
- Coronado ferries
- Flagship Whale watching at harbor cruise boats
- Charter yachts up to 90 feet
- Private yachts up to 120 feet
- Government/experimental vessels
- SeaTow rescue vessels

E.D. is an all-around waterman. Growing up in coastal southern CA inspired him and gave him a love for the ocean. So much so that he spent a number of years in Hawaii to be contiguous with the sea. With relentless trade winds roaring, it was in Hawaii that he really learned to sail. Running charter boats on both Oahu and Maui, Eddie understands the importance of both the operations and hospitality aspects of the captaining business.
Capt Eddie is and USCG Certified 100 GRT Captain, and is also a trained EMT with professional experience as and Ambulance driver/technician.
If you can find Eddie on his off time he’ll probably be enjoying a decadent charcuterie board and cold beer after a quick surf or while fishing.
He enjoys talking story and cracking a joke here and there, and would love the opportunity to boat with you today.
My most recent experience was as Master, Sea Maui where I chartered up to 49 passengers. I am also able to provide service repairs for them. Some of my other vessel experiences include:

I grew up on the east coast as the son of a captain and developed my love for the ocean through countless family boat trips, my first job at 13 years old running a launch boat for an island yacht club, and multiple boat deliveries traversing the entire east coast from New England to South Florida. Today I work as a USCG 100 ton Near Coastal Captain operating a boat that runs whale watching tours year-round from San Diego. My love for the ocean and the outdoors also extends to my private life in the form of surfing, kayaking, snorkeling, hiking and skiing. Boating is a way of life and a life I thoroughly enjoy. There is nothing better than cruising the oceans being able to see the wonders that the water and different ports of call hold.
Having spent many years in South Florida while owning and operating several boats the diving and fishing charters were very abundant. As a certified scuba diver it gave me the chance to use my boat for private dive charters to locations not frequented both in the Bahamas and Florida. Intercoastal cruises, Bay cruises and blue water charters gave me the start and experience needed to navigate most any waters up, down and across the South Florida coast, The Florida Keys and out to the Bahamas.
Moving to Southern California has given me another great experience with cold water, constant storm patterns and strict country boundaries, lessons were learned quickly. The entire west coast has amazing ports and islands that bring different challenges. All great places to cruise too and enjoy!
I am blessed to be a part of the professional boating community and look forward to all new experiences.
Boating since my early years I have owned and operated boats from 18ft to 50ft and have managed and operated boats up to 110ft professionally. Some of my experiences include:
- Offshore delivery for sales
- Private instruction
- Short and Long range delivery including entire west coast from Seattle to La Paz, Mexico
- Daily Charters for Harbor Cruises and Fishing, Bahamas, Florida and West Coast
- Weekend trips to Catalina, Ensenada, Mexico and West coast Ports
- Multi Hull sailing in Belize, Bahamas and BVI’s
- Yacht management
My attention to detail and planning has provided many clients, family and friends with many safe and enjoyable trips with memories to last a life time!!
I look forward to discussing your next adventure soon.

My career as a Merchant Mariner normally has me working “hitches” aboard an ice breaking scientific research vessel out of Alaska. On my off-time I enjoy practicing my craft, building my skillset, and sharing knowledge and experiences with others. In the past six years I’ve accumulated 1200+ sea days on my license and during this time, my favorite memories share the theme that all parties aboard a vessel contribute to the culture for each voyage and those folks by and large come together when on the water. There’s no better feeling than the start, or end, of a voyage: knowing that planning and forethought have been exercised toward a safe voyage underway and that prudence toward safety guides us along.
Time on the water has a multiplier to time on land when it comes to richness of the human experience. With your consideration, it would be my pleasure to sign on as crew for your voyage.

Having fun on our lovely San Diego Bays is what i’m all about. Soaking up the sun and sights. Private special occasions are my specialty. Why get out on the water with a crowd. Lets get out on the water privately, and let me show you the San Diego you’ve only seen in photos.
Grew up in Minnesota as part of a large tight-knit water loving family. Moved to San Diego in 1991 chasing a job as many before me. Fed up with the market and pay I opened a bar and restaurant in San Diego and owned it for 15 years before selling. Being by water was always a part my life growing up. Our family always had a boat and during summers I was more on the water then off. Being around water so much I learned to captain a boat when I was just 13. I started this company in order to get more people actually using there boats. It’s my belief I’ve done just that.
I have been operating boats since I can remember. Growing up I piloted the families 36′ Cruiser, then the 50′ houseboat and finally the 60′ Trawler. I purchased my first 32′ Cruiser when I turned 28 and have owned and skippered many yacht’s since. I have done deliveries around the world and been to Hawaii and back more time then I can count. I am ready to help you get off the dock and out on the sea.
S.D.
I’m a San Diego native and grew up on the coast. I’ve spent my entire life boating and sailing on both San Diego Bay and Mission Bay. I started sailing Sabots out of San Diego Yacht Club, and now I’m a year away from becoming a Life Member.
I’ve been married for 30 years and have two young adult sons. I have had a successful career in finance and accounting, and now have the time and opportunity to pursue my passion for boating and sailing as a Captain. I would welcome the opportunity to show you what makes our bays and ocean so special, and why there is nothing like a day on the water in San Diego.
After owning twelve boats, I’ve logged almost a thousand documented days on the water, both under sail and under power. I also volunteer as a markset boat operator for the San Diego Yacht Club which requires precision boat maneuvering in often adverse conditions. I’m a United States Coast Guard Master Captain with a sailing endorsement licensed to operate within 200 miles of the coast.

My name is Dwight St. John and I come from a long lineage of captains. The St. John name first landed in Connecticut in the early 1600s. My father, Donald, first took me out on a rowboat in my hometown of Norwalk, CT when I was seven years old. Being on the water was a great place for me, I felt it was part of my home. The following summer I managed my first motorboat and then learned to sail. When I turned sixteen I bought a 13” foot Boston whaler, rather than a car like most of my friends. Since the late 80s, I’ve spent my adult life as a commercial and residential builder transporting boats along the East Coast. From New York to Florida I’ve logged over 50,000 nautical miles.
I am a proud father of four children, Jake, Jamie, Tess, & Wilton, all of which live in San Diego, CA. I’m happy to say that all my time on the ocean has made my kids just as passionate about it too. My oldest son, Jake, serves in the United States Navy, and all my boys, including Jamie & Wilton, are certified active captains themselves. My daughter, Tess, loves being in and around the ocean the most, and there’s no doubt in my mind that if she wasn’t more skilled as a writer, she’d find herself as captain too. I am certainly a proud father.
My résumé ranges from 300’ PT Barnum passenger ferry as an AB, to my most recent full-time position as a Master of a 100’ Broward M/Y with a crew of four.
Since 2019 I’ve been the first captain of the E/V Captain Ben Moore; the first hybrid cargo vessel built in the USA.
As a professional captain since 1992, I have over 75,000 nautical miles logged. I am a USCG masters license for 100 tons near coastal with an endorsed commercial tow. I am also a licensed (MMD)able-bodied semen A/B unlimited oceans.
I’ve worked for many yacht brokers for delivery and instruction purposes. I had my own yacht management company contracted with up to 10 yacht captains.
I recently spent the year 2020- 21 working for flagship cruise lines running one of their commercial passengers ferries.
